How to avoid omitted dictation:
Slow down the voice so you slow down your typing speed
Listen carefully to each dictated word
Pay attention to the context so you can catch an omitted word
Proofread as you transcribe or after you complete the report…..Read the report aloud forward
How to avoid wrong words:
Don’t guess….check a reliable reference
Read the definition to ensure the word fits into the report context
Leave a blank if you are not absolutely certain of the word…..Fill in the blank if you know what the word is after completing the report
How to avoid misspelled words:
Add words to your text expander that you have difficulty spelling
Input the incorrect spelling of the word as the short form so it will automatically expand to the correct spelling
Write the word on paper
Write the word in your word books or personal notebook
Spell the word aloud
How to avoid typographical errors:
Proofread closely as you transcribe or after you finish the report
Read the report aloud backwards
Add typos to your text expander program

Learn the basics of grammar
Correct the grammar as you transcribe
Pay close attention to the context
How to avoid punctuation errors:
Learn the basics of punctuation.
Learn the exceptions for each punctuation mark. It is easier to remember the exceptions than to remember all the situations where the punctuation is used.
